The Simpsons: Anytime, Anywhere, Any Device
“When will I learn? The answers to life’s problems aren’t at the bottom of a bottle. They’re on TV!”
If your philosophy on life secretly aligns with Homer Simpson’s (and whose doesn’t?), you can come out of the closet with your donuts now. FXX network has purchased all 25 seasons of The Simpsons and has created a digital platform with on-demand access to every single episode, not to mention drool-worthy amounts of extra content. Simpsons World, launching in October, will allow authenticated FX subscribers to stream any of the 552 episodes through the FXNOW App and SimpsonsWorld.com.
“Oh, so they have Internet on computers now!”
That means you can gorge on all the Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Bumblebee Man you want on your smartphone, tablet, Xbox One, laptop, etc., whenever you want. But there’s so much more: Simpsons World is cross-indexed for finding specific quotes and exploring characters and locations. Plus, you can generate your own personalized playlist and share favorite clips and quotes.
“If you really want something in this life, you have to work for it. Now quiet! They’re about to announce the lottery numbers.”
FXX will stoke interest prior to launch by airing all 552 episodes—in chronological order—from August 21 through September 1. The 12-day run is the longest marathon in TV history—a fitting tribute given The Simpsons is TV’s longest-running scripted series. On September 2, FXX will schedule regular broadcasts into its prime time and late night lineups. Every Sunday, it will broadcast a mini-marathon of eight themed episodes.
“Television! Teacher, mother, secret lover.”
In other news about Springfield’s most famous family, the long-anticipated mash-up episode of The Simpsons and Family Guy previewed at Comic-Com in San Diego last week. The full episode is scheduled for September 28 in the season premiere slot of Family Guy. If you’re like us, the sight of the Griffins hanging out with the Simpsons might just give you a strange mix of eager anticipation and queasiness.
“D’oh!”
